The Thermacell system is more stable than others; its tighter keyways and our lock-over corners provide greater concrete flow, resulting in an extremely strong wall.
The strength of the Thermacell system is mainly due to the engineering of our blocks, and it’s because of this inherent strength that the system has proved itself in multi-storey buildings, as well as to customers in high wind and cyclonic areas.
Thermacell has also proved itself a suitable system for load-bearing walls, for use on sloping blocks, and even an underground house.
The core of the Thermacell ICF system comprises a latticework of concrete. The vertical columns support the downward pressure of the building, while the horizontal cross-flow of concrete resists sideways pressure - essential in the construction of retaining walls and swimming pools, and to prevent buildings from twisting under wind load. The ample core size in Thermacell systems is necessary to get sufficient concrete around the steel reinforcement. Steel reinforcement alone does not give the structure its strength - it needs to be thoroughly surrounded by concrete. However, too much steel in too small a cavity can sometimes lead to wall failures, particularly in high wind areas, so it’s important that it be just right.
