About Thermacell

Do I need steel reinforcing for the walls?

For non-cyclonic areas the only steel required in the walls is a single Y-12 reinforcing bar, to be placed either side of windows and doors in the outside walls.

Windows up to 2m in width require a Y-12 bar fitted across the top of the window to form a lintel. Windows over 2m may require a Y-16 bar.

It is recommended that a continuous Y-12 bar be placed in the top course of the exterior walls.

If 125mm Thermacell blocks are used for internal walls, no reinforcing is required unless these walls are required to be load bearing.

Further information on steel reinforcing can be obtained from the Thermacell design manual or by contacting Thermacell (Australia) Pty Ltd.
